Happy Halloween!

Hope you have a fun filled day of pumpkins, costumes and candy galore!!
Anne practiced trick or treating all night by knocking on our bedroom door. She's ready :)
and yes we are going as Red Riding Hood characters but the kids have a lot of dress up options so they went as Sleeping Beauty and a football player to the church party.

Tasty Tuesday: Banana Pancakes

Welcome back to Tasty Tuesday!
Every Tuesday I'll be posting recipes and meal ideas for picky eaters. Along with whether or not it was a success at our house. I'm hoping for mostly successes :)

Today I'm sharing a staple in our house:
Banana Pancakes
Nothing novel but for us it's a great way to start the day off. Anne devours pancakes and since she'll eat 4 (yup 4!) in one sitting sometimes she gets 1/2 a banana in without even noticing it.

Happy Anne, Happy mommy :)
No big secret on making these. I just mash up a banana (if we have strawberries I throw some of those in too) and add it right into the pancake mix. With Aunt Jemimas I keep everything else the same. With Krusteaz I just throw in some mix and enough water to get to the right consistency. Generally I do 1 banana for about 8 pancakes.

If you have any recipes your picky eater loves please link them up! We may give them a shot :) The link up will be included each week so we have a growing directory of resources for all of us

Elmo Shutter Buddy Tutorial

If you have a toddler you probably also have an Elmo fan in your house :)
Something about that red furry monster makes all little kids happy!
Which makes Elmo the perfect shutter buddy for any photo shoot! It's so much easier to get a natural smile out of a kid who is having a good time. And this little Elmo shutter buddy has a squeaker hidden inside which works wonders for getting the attention of a baby!
Let's get started!

I made mine entirely from felt which is cheap and easy.

1. Cut 2 red circles for the outside. The inner cut out should be wider around than the lens so you can gather it in a bit with your elastic. You also need circles for the eyes and nose.
Cut a piece of elastic to just smaller than your lens circumference and sew the ends together. A hair band may work for this too now that I think about it
Sew your 2 circles together around the inner circle and then slide the elastic over so it's in between the 2 circles.
Sew most of the way around the outside and then slide your squeaker in. Sew the gap shut.
Sew a running stitch around the outer edge of the nose. Pull on the threads to gather and add in a bit of stuffing. Pull tight and knot off.
Topstitch on the eyes and then hand sew on his cute nose and you're all set!

Just a Peek: The Whole Gang

We kicked off Halloween a bit early with a party on Friday night at the rec. center in Provo. Anne was into it for the first few minutes until she saw a Pirate flag and that was about as much spook as she could handle :) She put on a brave face though so she could get some candy at a few of the booths.
Still fun to get out of the house and all dress up! And it was extra nice that Will could just go right to bed in his costume when we got home :)

BEST Nursing Tank Ever Giveaway!

I recently got to review the Undercover Mama nursing tank and I loved it!
It just hooks right onto your nursing bra and then flips down with your bra when you need to nurse. It is so nice to not have to worry about lifting up another layer when you have an impatient baby waiting for you!

The very best part is that it keeps you completely covered while you nurse! No more showing your stomach and back to the whole world. I've nursed my babies just about everywhere and I have a nursing cover but it's always getting pulled off and it doesn't cover my back at all. With Undercover Mama I can nurse anywhere I like without having to worry about finding a good place to hide out.

See what I mean...

I went with a basic white but they have a ton of fun colors and options to choose from! And right now if you buy 2 or more you get a discount and FREE shipping!
Buy More and Save: Limited-Time Quantity Discount & Free Shipping on Orders of 2 Shirts or More

this week 1 lucky reader will win a Nursing Tank of their choice!

Crib Bumper Tutorial

The  nursery is finally finished! The crib bumpers really pulled it all together :)
After my son ended up like this multiple nights in a row I decided it was definitely time for some crib bumpers!
***Note: some have advised against the use of crib bumpers. This decision is up to you and your doctor. Since my boy can easily roll in either direction I feel the crib bumpers do not pose a suffocation risk and are saving him from a lot of caught limbs***
Much better! And a happy baby means a happy mom :)
I made my bumpers from 6 separate panels that tie in place on the outside of the crib. The piping around the edges was the perfect finishing touch! And they're completely reversible which I love! If chevron becomes a bit too stimulated for my little guy I can just flip them around and have yellow on the inside instead.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I LOVE this fabric!!
I have a portable crib, but I've also included material requirements and measurements for a standard size crib in parentheses.torqouise
1 1/4 Yards (2 Yards) Chevron in Bermuda
1 1/4 Yards (2 Yards) Bella Solids in Yellow
3/4 Yards (1 1/2 Yards) Bella Solids in Torquoise (for ties and piping)
You will also need bumper pads/batting. I recovered an old set. Mine were 8" tall so add a little extra fabric if your pieces are taller

Cut the following Pieces
For a portable Crib:
  • 2 panels in each fabric measuring 25 x 9" (remember to add to the height if your pads are taller)
  • 4 panels in each fabric measuring 20 x 9"
For a standard Crib:
  • 6 panels in each fabric measuring 27 x 9" (remember to adjust for your pad thickness and height and then add seam allowances)
For either Size:
  • 24 ties measuring 3 x 10" (increase the length to 16" if you want bows instead of knots)
  • 1.5" strips cut on the bias for bias. I ended up using about 7 yards total

1. Fold each tie piece in half with the long edges together. Sew up the long edge and the created a tapered point across one short edge. Trim the excess fabric
2. Turn right side out and press flat. Repeat 23 times :)
3. Wrap your bias strips around a piece of cording and baste in place using your zipper foot. Sew as close to the piping as possible.
4. Baste a length of piping to the top and bottom edge of each inside (or outside) panel. Baste your straps in place. You need 2 straps on each end.
5. Add a panel on top in your 2nd fabric and sew together right along the piping edge using your zipper foot. Leave a 4-6" gap for turning on one of the short edges.
6. Turn right side out and slide your bumper pad/batting inside. and then hand sew the opening shut.
Tie around your crib slats and you're finished!
Hope you enjoy sewing up a set of your own!
