Sunny Day Romper

Nothing like a romper on a sunny day!

Little miss decided it was pretty perfect for summer too:) Let me tell you a little secret- this whole outfit was made from a fitted sheet! Which means- no elastic and no casings {yippe!}Less time sewing, more time playing

And I just had to put a big sassy bow in the back to complete the look

Let's get started! 

Materials:

• Fitted Sheet- you can find some awesome ones at the thrift store! Or...fabric and elastic
• Bias Tape
• Piping {optional}
• Ric Rac
• Fabric for embellishing

1. Cut out your pieces. Use the elastic portion of the fitted sheet for the top of the shorts and shirt. I just cut around some shorts that fit well adding some room on each side- you don't need to add extra space at the top or bottom if you're using a fitted sheet. I cut my shorts with the outside edge on the fold. 

2. ***My top had an incident and I ended up changing it at the end. If you want  a row of piping like mine has just cut your bodice off about 1.5" down from the top. Gather the top piece and the bottom piece to just a bit bigger than your kiddo's chest circumference and then sew back together with the piping in between.

With right sides together {RST} sew up the bodice sides and the inseam of your shorts.

3.  Slide the short legs inside each other with RST and sew up the crotch seam.

4. With the shorts laying flat cut a quarter circle out of each side {it will be a half circle when you unfold the shorts}. 

 5. Gather the bottom of each leg and sew a piece of bias tape along the half circle cut out.

 6. Sew a piece of bias tape along the bottom of each leg leaving a long enough tail to tie in a bow.
***These shorts were inspired by Bugaboo, Mini, Mr & Me {I saw hers and fell in LOVE! Not sure if we used the same method for putting them together or not}

7. To finish off your top sew on some ric rac stems by sewing right down the middle. Then zig zag stitch around your flowers.

 8. Add bias tape to the bottom and sew on some straps or ribbon at the top. To make my straps I just took a long length of fabric, folded it in half with RST and sewed up the long edge, turned it right side out, tucked in the raw edges and then sewed around all of the edges to help it lay flat.
