P is for Pumpkin Tee

I LOVE pumpkin patches! They are so much fun and I was really glad we had a chance to make it this year. Of course little miss needed a shirt for her very first trip to the patch:)

Materials:
  • Orange yarn and knitting needles OR old knit hat, sweater, etc. to cut up
  • Shirt
  • Fall fabric scraps
  • Fusible Web
1. Knit a small orange swatch. I just used stockinette stitch and worsted weight yarn, but this would be really cute in garter, seed, rib, etc. (skip to step 2 if you don't knit)
2. Cut out a pumpkin shape from your knitted swatch or old knit item. Don't worry knit doesn't fray, so once you get rid of the initial cut off ends you'll be in good shape.
3. Cut out a piece of fusible web and adhere your pumpkin to the shirt. *This took a bit of patience. Don't set your iron to hot or your yarn might melt, so to get it to fuse I used a lower heat setting for a longer amount of time
4. Now that your pumpkin is in place, stitch all the way around it with a zig zag stitch. If you want you could just do a pumpkin. Of course, I decided to add a little extra something:) To finish off the shirt I cut out as stem and letters and then stitched them down with a zig zag stitch. You could also hand embroider with a blanket stitch.
Have fun at the patch!

*It you're looking for a fun patch in Utah try South Ridge Farms in Santaquin. We had a blast! There's a little maze for the kiddos (or me...), fresh apple juice and produce, and a hay ride.

  1. This shirt and your babe are both so cute! Did you cut the letters with a Cricut? I've never cut fabric with mine before, so I was just wondering if it works as well as they say it does!

  3. That is so cute! Would felt work, or would it just melt? I might just have to make a trip to Goodwill to see if there are any orange sweaters!
